DakshinaChitra, Chennai is organising Village Festival from 28 Dec 2016 to 29 January 2017 at DakshinaChitra, East Coast Road, Muttukkadu, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The festival will present folk dance forms by the local troupes from Cuddalore, Srivilliputtur, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh . The dance forms will include Theepandhattam, Gaarudi Gumbe, Olakka dance, Gussadi and Kummipattu etc.
From 28th Dec to 1st Jan 2017, folk dances from Tamil Nadu will be presented by Suman of Salangai Kalai Kuzhu from Cuddalore. Krishna Gowda and troupe from Mandya District from Karnataka will perform Gaarudi Gombe, the folk dance from 4th – 8th Jan 2017. Pongal celebration and there performance by Uma Rani of Kodangi Kalai Kuzhu from Srivilliputturwill be conducted from 11th -16th Jan 2017 . From 18th – 22nd Jan 2017, Madhu and Ranjith from Kerala will perform the folk form, Olakka Dance and from 25th – 29th Jan 2017 Gussadi Dance by Linga Srinivas and troupe from Andhra Pradesh will be performed. The performance timings are 11.30 am, 12.30 pm, 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm.
DakshinaChitra is a cross cultural living museum of art, architecture, lifestyles, crafts and performing arts of South India. It reflects the beauty, traditions, innovations and the continuing evolution of South Indian arts and culture.
The main mission is to exhibit, promote and preserve aspects of the broader, more inclusive cultures of the states and to bring these arts to the public in a participative, enjoyable and engaging way.
