National Puppet Festival at DakshinaChitra

DakshinaChitra, the history and heritage museum at Chennai (TamilNadu, India), will conduct National Puppet festival from 22nd to 24th of September 2017. The three day festival will highlight the traditional performing art of puppetry.  The puppet festival will bring in puppet troupes from South and North of India to perform the different forms of puppetry namely string, rod and shadow puppetry at different venues at DakshinaChitra .

The festival will present Bommalattam by Ramakrishna Katta Bommalattam Kuzhu,Tamilnadu;  Shadow and Rod Puppetry by  Sphoorthi Theatre ,Andhra Pradesh;  String Puppetry by Dhiren Natya Tarer Putul Sanstha ,West Bengal and String Puppetry by Dewali Nemech Keda,Rajasthan. The timing of the performances is scheduled as follows.

Performances: Time: 11.30 am – 05.30 pm
11.30 am & 03.30 pm – Thol Bommalattam, Tamil Nadu
11.30 am & 03.30 pm – Rod & Shadow Puppetry, Telangana
12.00 pm & 04.00 pm – Katta Bommalaattam, Tamil Nadu
12.30 pm & 04.30 pm – Kathputli, Rajasthan
01.00 pm & 05.00 pm – Tarer Putul, West Bengal

DakshinaChitra is a cross cultural living museum of art, architecture, lifestyles, crafts and performing arts of South India. The main mission is to exhibit, promote and preserve aspects of the broader, more inclusive cultures of the states and to bring these arts to the public in a participative, enjoyable and engaging way.
